probably didnt realease the names because of fear of retaliation. its one thing to release the name of some guy who beats up his wife last night, but a tradgedy such as this has really angered the ENTIRE community. i'm not saying that the entire community isn't angered by some wife beater, but something of this magnitude requires a bit of protection for those accused. we have a justice system for a reason. obviously, they will announce the names in time, but they will try to wait until people's nerves have calmed down a bit. just look at some of the comments above. there is obviously a lot of hatred towards the people who are responsible for this and I dont blame the community for being very angry. but putting these kids at risk unnecessarily doesn't help anything. they will be made public in due time. although they are likely to never have to pay a dime for this (they dont have any money and their parents are not going to be held responsible for this in any way), they will have to live with this forever. my heart goes out to all who were affected, including the 10 young adults who will never be able to forget the lives they have ruined. may peace be within us all

First of all, I would like to send my condolences to the family of Mr. Pitts. It is always a terrible tragedy to lose the life of a loved one, whether by suicide or accident. My heart is with you all.

That being said, I think that placing a barrier on the bridge is probably the most ineffective way to help resolve this issue. Why not spend the $3.3M on public programs to raise awareness about depression and provide support programs for those suffering? I am completely against such an ineffective use of public funds, yet the "Save the Brigdge" group is not offering much of an argument themselves. I read that one of the main opponents of the bridge barrier proposed installing cameras and a speaker system that would provide a calming voice to any would-be bridge jumpers. That is not an effective solution either. We need to get together to debate possible solutions that dont involve the bridge. The bridge is not the problem, and by constructing a suicide barrier, that is just moving the problem from one place to the next. We need to work on resolving the underlying problem, which is finding the reasons the suicides are happening in the first place! God bless all who are suffering from depression and are looking for help.

adding to the shortage is the fact that many governments in europe are now offering farmers large subsidies to convert their crops to ethanol producing crops to provide for renewable energy sources.

I was one of the thirty victims this january. one of my housemates was another. I live on the oceanside of the 101 near turnpike exit. the guy stole my ipod and radio transmitter for it. i am still on the lookout for this guy. the article is right. i was an idiot for leaving my ipod in plain sight. i thought my car was safe at home. we have since installed a motion sensor security light over our driveway. take my story as a learning experience.
