Good Lord-this is really the passing of an era in Santa Barbara. This one goes all the way back to Bonnie Langley and “Pop” Leland, all on State Street.
I remember going into Fancy Music on State Street with Ken Thackwell and Neil Taylor (both gone now)l and buying Traynor amps and a Traynor sound system for our band, Noah’s Natural Rhythm. Richard and Bob made an interesting team. And both of them were super nice folks as well. RIP

Thanks for sharing this. I lost my mom to cigarettes (and the booze) yet I continued to smoke. When actor Yule Brenner died of lung cancer it was big news. His anti-smoking commercial came out AFTER he had passed begging people not to smoke. I distinctly remember watching the ad and having a Marlboro in my fingers. The ad was so shocking that I immediately put out the cigarette-and didn’t light another one-for about twenty minutes. This August 10th will be 25 years smoke-free.

Someone made the point the dog in question was well-behaved and not a problem at all.
This misses the point that the rules of using this particular facility are that dogs are NOT allowed on the premises. Newcomers are often unhappy with rules and don’t believe they should have to follow any rules which they personally don’t approve of. They are still too young in their recovery to think of anyone or anything but themselves. They are often unaware of how their actions can jeopardize others; such as not being allowed to continue using a meeting hall because rules have been ignored. Then there are others who don’t understand the AA program and profess that there really ARE no rules. I once witnessed a young man who was new to recovery walk naked through the meeting hall on his bellybutton birthday. You should have seen how upset the “AA has no rules” crowd became. Some of them dialed 911 and others said that the thoughtless act brought back molestation issues! They sure wanted to see rules THAT day! Lol
And as to hitting someone in a meeting? In over 26 years I have only seen it once. A newcomer with a history of violence didn’t like not being called on to share at the Alano and took a swing at the leader. He was lucky to leave unhurt and alive. I have personal knowledge that there are regular attending members who carry protection. Mr. Hothead should be happy he is getting jail time and not a box.

Hit some old timer in the face hard enough to smash his cheek? I think 9 years is just about right.

@DrDan:Actually according to the latest DOD and FBI stats, -death by guns are trending DOWN. Way down. This despite the fact that more guns of all types are now in the possession of law abiding American citizens. President Obama has been declared the national gun salesman of the year for the last 6 years by the NRA and other organizations who track gun sales.
And before anyone yammers about 30,000 gun deaths each year REMEMBER TWO things:1. More than 75% of ALL gun deaths are suicides (look it up) 2. 20,000 are killed on our nation’s highways EACH year. When I suggest a national speed limit of 35mph everyone screams. But (according to Obama) if it saves just ONE life it will be worth it! lol

@John Lock-Once a month at the gun range shooting your newest toy and looking cool in your latest purchase from the Cabela catalog, is a little different than having rounds coming back at you or an drugged up retardo with a big knife coming towards you. My bet is that you would not only go ZERO for five but would find a big lump in the back of your pants as well.

My sincere condolences to the Norris family. I had the pleasure of meeting Ms. Norris a few times and found her to be intelligent, kind and charming. Together with her husband she made a positive difference in the lives of so many-including mine.

ONLY in California would someone dare to point a fake gun. In most other States they would be looking right back at a real one.Not too bright. Are his tattoos real?
