Michelle, You have found the answer to the FAT KID syndrome. Take an everday child, expose "IT" to TV at birth, raise it on Video Games and then transistion "IT" to the Internet and whala! One big FAT KID. Now as grown-ups (the smart ones) we have NO time to spend with our children, they were part of the family dream but NOT the part we had to do something with. These off-springs were an attachment to the picture of sucess but NOT an important part, just an item, a possession to add to the long lists of accomplishments that we as a society deems as nessessary to feel or look complete.
My Mother was a "stay-at-home-mother", Oh My GOD! Did I just say a naughty word? Mothers in this day an age are business people (did I say that right? Was that PC?) I help my mother plant a garden. Oops! Did I do it again....
Back in the day, my Mother was a mother, she believed in exposing my and my bothers to the outdoors, the park a block away and being a dreamer rather than a watcher.
I had watched TV but at night with Mom and Dad; not glued to my Compter or Gaming console, peeing in a bottle or eatting power bars and drinking energy drinks cause I might miss something on the blog.
Now, I make time to get out and walk at the park, run at the boardwalk, fish on the river. I park a little ways away from the store and walk, take the stairs, go to the park and watch the clouds go by for relaxation.
We need to be as parents active before we demand our children to be active.
What happens to fish in a dark cave over time, they go blind and turn ghost white. Our children are doing the same. As for the "FAT KID"? "IT" will continue to grow in girth until we parents stop treating them like possessions and treat them like people (Just small people).
Be PRO-ACTIVE and they'll wanna know where Mom and Dad went. Practice what we Preach.
Charles

WOW! I can't believe my ear's! Homelessness in SB?
When I left paradise in 95' to live in the Mid-West and then onto the East Coast of Summer HELL, Homelessness in SB was not worse then as in now. This new 'Panhandling Ordinance', has failed from the get-go. These recepticales for receiving funds from the public and tourist will be stolen, NO doublt but when your a Politician is giving you lips service then any idea will do. As for the Jails? When Winter arrives, the "Homeless" will break any Law that gets them a Warm bed, Three (3) Hot meal's and Medical services. These items are maditory at the Jail, not at the Shelter and besides, with the Majority of Homeless / 'Bag People' being Mentally challenged or chemically altered, they have NO where else to go. We can have our bleeding-heart and say, "Save the Homeless" but the truth is most would rather be out on the street than worrying about the Non-economy, Taxes or Socialization of America. As for the Killing? Gangs have targeted the Homeless for Intiation Gang Killings for years. The (illegal) Latino population is made-up of criminals and thugs who either prey on homeless or resident to further their criminal ventures, STOP them and the Homeless killings will cease but the death's will continue just at a slower rate.

I agree with the Capped Salaries but Government is flawed with who is elected and by who does the electing, special interest groups. California is a Latino Dominate State, most of our low workers, who work the jobs that whites don't or won't work have access to the State Offices, the County and the City offices, they empty the trash cans, clean the offices of our leader (so called), they have the most inside scoop on what new legislation is, what cuts are coming and where the money is going. Now we whitties had that once but we sold-out for the pie-in-the-sky dream and the "Bling-Bling" in our pocket, now we cry cause the "Bling-Bling" lost its false shine and the sky we don't shoot for anymore. We can get it back if we look at what is important, our home-state. Encourage your off-springs to take the lowly job, and apply that overly expensive education to your home-town, market your skills and send some money home; to Santa Barbara, Ca.
Cause if the Latino's can do it, so can we!

On Apathetic Voters’ Lament

Both Democrats and Republican have cashed in California for their healthy pay-checks. Though it was the Republicans who ordered the rape of tax-payers the Democrats failed to retrain the republican or basked in the wealth aquired. It's true both sides are to blame and we can continue to place blame but it won't change the results. They say the poop flows down from the top, well, the top needs to get their budget-cut equally. They pay themselves and eliminate everyone else, remember, Russia during WWII, the Commanders would (at gun point) order the troops to charge the German tanks with pistols and one-round rifles, if a soldier refused, they were shot by the Commanding officer. The State Government is the same. They won't lead but they have NO problem killing those programs that could take thieir monies away from them. What California needs is for leaders who lead by example and at the front, not cowards who hide in their offices and count the Tax-Payers monies for themselves.

On Stop the Green Taxes

All Republicans are EVIL! Hogwash! Democrats want BIG GOVENMENT, Republicans love small GOVERNMENT but republicans are more libral than they were some 20 or 30 years ago. We have large, hungry government plus a huge imigration problem coupled with imigarnts with voting power to sway the vote in their favor. Obama was elected because of WHITE guilt and shame. White's voted for him and others because they want to right the wrongs of a Nation shrouded in shame for enslavement of blacks. I didn't vote for Obama because I have NO white shame. My family NEVER owned a slave but had been enslave throughout time by other powerful Countries, Russia, Germany, Norseman, Persia, Rome, Greese. State Government was corupted way before the Goveanater took over, kick-backs from the Power Companys, Big Industrial Bussiness, Oil Companies, etc..
No matter who takes Arnold’s place the economy in California is doomed. There is NO silver bullet, No magic wand or spell to make this problem disappear. California has had way too many thiefs taken from the State Coffers and the more the economy goes bad the more people who need Government monies to survive. Besides, Arnold, doesn't draw a State Pay-Check, the next guy will.]

You have a voice, when the delay costs life or property, mail the bill to the US Forest Service and notify your Attorney. A Class-Action Suit with plenty of Cable and TV time will garnish a sizeable amount.
