On Student Left Paralyzed After Fall from IV Balcony Last Month

i went to both CC and UCSB, the quality of the education is dependent on your personal effort and willingness to learn. both schools have more than adequate resources for an undergraduate. i rented a nice little 1br while living in IV for a year recently, my landlord started to pressure me to sign the following year's lease 8 months before my current lease had expired. there is definitely high competition for housing in IV.

On Gang Members Convicted of Robbery, False Imprisonment

we get there's a prison industrial complex and that the system lends itself to inequality, but the criminals and crimes cited in the article aren't victimless. it's not like her son got 11 years for a personal baggie of weed, he MURDERED someone. the people referenced in the article are violent, repeat offending gang members. certainly not to be confused with the segment of incarcerated individuals who pose no threat to society and landed harsh sentences due to their low SES or ethnic background.

when your family members are violent criminals and murderers it must be much easier to look outward and point fingers than to truly come to terms with how despicable the people closest to you really are.

justbobf, they're no different than fundamentalist religious fanatics who cherry pick scripture to further their ideological agendas. the right to bear arms is inextricably linked to the need for "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State." but that aspect of the 2nd amendment neither supports nor furthers their agenda, and so we have the firearm fetish culture fueled by industry lobby and NRA propaganda.

"guns don't kill people, people kill people!"
did you also know that toasters don't toast? People toast. But it is a lot easier to toast toast with a toaster than without one.
it's very strange how many people find it appropriate to compare ubiquitous items that are used by billions of people in their daily routine (like a knife or a hammer) to a purpose built human killing device....
i'd love to see someone try and core and slice an apple with a .357 mag or hang pictures on the wall with their .223 tac rifle.
plato is rolling over in his grave listening to all your rhetorical fallacies.

also worth mentioning that the botts dots on the highway reflect bright red if you're traveling the wrong direction at night. next time you're driving into the sun at sunrise or sunset check them out in your rear view mirror, the reflective surface that's red is only on the side facing the direction of traffic. another thing to remember is a 16 yr old/minor is not allowed to drive between 11pm and 5am without an adult in the vehicle for the first year they have their license. there are plenty of fail safes to prevent this kind of accident but you can't save them all from themselves.
