Thank you Barney for your accurate depiction of how Ventura is changing. You forgot one very important area of town, and that is the Ventura Harbor. It, too, is under a revival that now has 100% occupancy and many Mediterranean and beyond restaurant choices. I am the owner of The Greek at the Harbor (Greek Dance Shows and Belly Dancing) and Margarita Villa (Mariachi and local bands on weekends), but we also have Andria's Seafood (voted best Seafood for about 20 years), Christy's Deli, Spinnaker Seafood Broiler (great steaks and seafood), LePetit Cafe and Bakery, Harbor Sushi, Coastal Cone, The Parlor, Milano's Italian Restaurant and a sprinkling of fast food choices right in the Village area with exquistie shopping and a full-sized Carousel (fantastic homemade fudge too w/arcade), paddle boats, jet skis, Electric Boat and Sailboat rentals, Fishing Boats, Harbor Cruises, etc. Island Packer cruises also are headquartered here for island excursions. We are also very excited to welcome Santa Barbara's Brophy Bros here in the harbor opening next week.
We also have two hotels right in the harbor and a time share: The Sheraton Four Points, Holiday Inn Express and Harbortown Marina Resort. On the far side of the harbor, we have Scotch and Sirloin, which is well known for its prime rib, steaks and seafood. The Sheraton also has a Sunday brunch.
So Ventura really has a lot going for it.....great restaurants throughout the city, a variety of shopping experiences, home of Patagonia, great outdoor adventure activities for the whole family, and now a great shuttle service from downtown to the harbor with daily service every 20-40 minutes from 7am-9pm.
We are a great stopping off place for Santa Barbarans to and from Los Angeles. Many of our regular customers come from Santa Barbara since there are no Greek restaurants there.
