Yes, the liberals were slow growth back in the 70s - 90s. But now they have deserted that environmental philosophy and have thrown themselves in bed with unions, homeless advocates, subsidized housing advocates and developers because their money buys elections. But look at the mess that they have made of the SB budget, the crime, the gangs, the panhandlers, etc.
Santa Barbara used to strive to live within our means. No longer. What is sad is that the Republicans (with the exception of some out of work architects) have become the environmentalists in this town.

I don't know if Steve Cushman is the answer but certainly let's not re-elect the people who got us into this position. These are also the people who gave out pay raises to unions while the city finances were tanking.

Let's hope that none of the council who voted to approve this will be in any elected office in 2010.

This guy's just a poster boy for Lois Capps and other open border types. This is a guy that will receive amnesty. And there are plenty more just like him.

Ask Lois Capps. She is one of the most consistant voices for open borders in the House. But we keep reelecting her. There are many tools that we could use that would curtail illegal immigration. The mandatory use of E-Verify would be a great start.

Thank you Mr. Torell. You seem to have had a very productive career. You were given a tough last task to sort out.
But "Whatever happen to the 25% of the affordable home owners that were not in compliance? " Were they forced to sell? Were there legal penalties? Were there employees of the department that were found to be 'involved'.
I'm sure that we all wish you the best in retirement.

'They even named a candy bar for him'.
The candy bar wasn't named after him. I believe that it was named after the infant daughter of Charles Lindberg.

It's a gray whale though I don't know whether it's natural or not.

What would it take to force our sheriff and police departments enforce 287(g)? Assuming the city councils and BOS would have nothing to do with it could this be done with a citizen intitiative?
