Instead of destroying nature to build another big chain store on the good land of Goleta, can someone just raze the ugly old outdated KMart and put Target in that location instead?

A guy died and someone both 1) tried to cover it up (denial about the car, said car cleaned up but with human fibers still attached, "disappearing" text messages) and 2) did not come forth about the incident. Bottom line, this man (and likely his family) knew what he did was wrong. Shameful.

I hear and agree with you, Eckermann. I despise the survival of the fittest system, but it's what we have. It's obviously not working well, either. But hey, this is the land of the free and we built ourselves on capitalism and independence, so the predicaments like those of 90 year old ladies with nobody to care for them are a side effect of our political and economic system, no?

Are you kidding me?!?!? Maybe the poor (and in Santa Barbara, poor is a VERY relative term) live here because they grew up here, or because they have no financial means to move to a less than glamorous place where they don't know anybody! Just because they are poor doesn't mean they don't have a right to live in precious, idyllic Santa Barbara. So will you step in and help ship someone out of Santa Barbara because they no longer have the financial means to live here because they "need to move to a place that has housing they can afford"?
I moved out of Santa Barbara once because I made, in some areas, a decent salary (more than $65k/year) but it wasn't enough to afford the high rent and pay my student loans and car payment--and afford a decent place that accepted a large dog. The irony? I work in healthcare, where people with my degree are needed in Santa Barbara, yet we commute from Ventura, Santa Maria and beyond to take care of Santa Barbarians because the cost of living is so high here. I don't feel sorry for me, but I do feel sorry for people who try to get by making a decent, honest living, or for those--who like the 90 year old mentioned in comments--have reached an age where they can no longer take care of themselves, have limited means and memory, and who have few if any friends because most of them have died. Those people are supposed to "move to a place that has housing they can afford"? Get real!!!!

I wish KMart could be razed and replaced by Target.
As much as I love living in Santa Barbara, I agree with islanddolphin; I tire of driving to Ventura or Oxnard for affordable supplies.
