Does the 3 foot rule apply to streets with a bike lane?
Or does the bike lane define the safe area for the bikes?

"She got fired as a receptionist from La Cumbre Country Club some years back due to her criminal record."

Aren't personnel records supposed to be confidential?

"For crying out loud, REDUCE THE SPEED LIMIT! !!!"

People drive at the speed at which they are comfortable, if you're not comfortable at 65, drive 55. Personally, I'm more concerned with the many drivers that aren't competent at any speed above walking.

While on the subject of safe driving, the Amber alert sign at Las Positas is warning everybody about using a cell phone while driving. Does the SBPD know about this law? Or the one about a loose animal in the passenger area of a car? What does the SBPD do all day long? They sure aren't making the roads safer.

“It’s the responsibility of the person who’s driving,” she said. “People need to make better choices. Period.”

I agree and would add, that includes your friend. I'm sorry she is dead, but she was a willing participant in a stupid activity that went horribly wrong. He needed a better lawyer. There was no way he deserved 14 years for this. DA overreached and got away with it.

So they fired him before his trial? I'd be interested on what grounds. Did he lie about his record when applying for the job? Not in any way defending this schlub, but is Capps's office being set up (or setting itself up) for a wrongful termination suit?

I'm sure she will do a fine job, but have to ask: with a salary of $230K/yr, why does she need a $7K/yr car allowance (with mileage reimbursement!)? If she has to drive somewhere on County business, isn't there a motor pool she can use? This is another example of why our "leaders' are out of touch with those that pay their salaries.
