Eliminate 4 math teachers and 2 psychologists? Would the elimination of 6 psychologists save the 4 math teachers? A policy of fading out the librarians (hiring no new librarians) and replacing them with “media technicians” would seem like an acceptable route. Odd that the city of Santa Barbara can lend money to purchase property (and remove it from the tax rolls) but can not assist the school district in the education of our children.

On School District Cuts $4 Million

Posted on April 18 at 12:32 a.m.

Mental Health is important – education for our children is important – police and fire protection are important. The cost for all of these has risen faster than the rate of inflation – tax revenues have also increase faster then inflation. The wages (not for teachers) and benefits of mental health workers, police, and fireman have increased at even a higher rate. Those employed by private companies have seen their benefits slashed, zero to small pay raises. Engineers at Raytheon have no sick time, can not roll over vast amounts of vacation and sick time to cash out and get larger pensions. Their pensions are not inflation indexed. My suggestions are to cut benefits to the level provided by private employers and no pay raises higher then the percentage increase of social security recipients. I have to live on my income that is fixed, about time the government learns to live on theirs.
