I thought we lived in a democracy, where anyone has the right to vote and run for office! Why do you continue to perpetuate the blatant lie that Ralph Nader was responsible for the U.S. Supreme Court's sleazy behavior in 2000 which decided the results of the "election"?!

Nader is one of the smartest & dedicated individuals in this country's history. Instead of putting him on the defensive with condescending questions like. “What do you hope to accomplish in this election?” [“Nader Never Sleeps,” 9/25/08, independent.com/nadernever.] Why not respect him for risking ridicule to do the right thing and act more democratically than anyone in the elections?--Sam Gerard

The Democrats lost that election fair and square, putting forth a tepid "middle of the road" candidate, much to the dismay of the democratic wing of the democratic party (to quote the man who should have been running and who was effectively torpedoed by his own party). Nader is a much needed thorn in our sides and has done many, many commendable things, most of which get overshadowed by petty complaints.

In a real interview situation, questions like this can have subtle undertones depending on context and how its framed (only the interviewer Martha Sadler and Nader will know for sure). But on the face of it, I thought it was a good question and one that people would want to hear an answer. I think Nader gave a reasonable response which provided an understanding of his motivations.
