Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred on Sunday, August 24, which they believe could be gang-related.

A 16-year-old boy was walking along the 1100 block of East Gutierrez Street around 10:30 p.m. when, according to what he to told police, a 19-year-old man stabbed him in the back as the two passed each other. The victim allegedly then heard his assailant yell out a gang name. The 16-year-old ran home and was briefly chased by his assailant. Once home, two of his relatives called a taxi cab take him to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. That cabbie, while en route to the hospital, called the police.

In a press statement on the matter, police spokesman Sgt. Lorenzo Duarte said the matter was ongoing. He did not say what the stabbed 16-year-old’s condition was.

That's what happens when you spend all your time arguing whether downtown should have a 45 foot or 60 foot height cap instead of dealing with issues that, well, actually have a much greater bearing on preserving the so called "charm" of Santa Barbara I keep hearing about.

Stabbed him in the back huh? What a coward - didn't even give him a chance to defend himself. In the days of the Wild West even the outlaws had more honor than to shoot or stab a guy in the back. This guy wouldn't have lasted a day, he never would have made it as far as the Sheriff's office before a pack of vigilantes got to him first and strung him up for this cowardly act. In Santa Barbara we just "tolerate" it and sing "all they need is love". Just another day in "paradise" and denial. Civilization has come so far in one hundred years...we like to think.

"Mexican- Americans don't like to just get into gang fights. They like flowers, and music, and white girls named Debbie too"

Why didn't they call 911 instead of a taxi? I hope he recovers and that the culprit is locked up.

Cheaper to take the taxi. A sad but true fact of life in modern American health care.

Your comments always amuse and astound me binkster. In what health care system and in what country is it NOT cheaper to take a taxi?
