I thank Lansing Duncan for reminding us all of the divisiveness of he and Gail Marshall's administration. In his letter in last weeks issue Lansing did not mention he and Mrs. Marshall are both instrumental in Mrs. Farr's campaign and would be in her administration if elected. Lansing’s attack on Steve Pappas was both vile and inaccurate. Over the past 7 years as a private citizen Steve Pappas has transcended partisan politics and has worked hard to protect open space, improve elementary school education, keep agricultural viable, protect property rights, stop casino expansion and ensure that residents have a voice in what happens in their community. He has done all of this while running two successful businesses, raising a family, and serving as the President of the Los Olivos School Board. Because of his positive leadership and track record as a private citizen Steve has the support of many Democrats, Republicans, and Independents. As someone who knows Steve well, I can assure you that as Supervisor he will move this county forward in a positive direction to the benefit of all residents.

"Doug Herthel, a veterinarian at Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center, has passed $17,500 to his friend Pappas, while $10,000 has been given under the clinic’s name and $3,000 has been given by fellow Alamo Pintado veterinarian Greg Parks. Mark Herthel, son of Doug, has given $5,000, while his company — Platinum Performance — has given $10,000." --- from the Indy article on the 3rd district race financing.
As I said over at the original Lansing post, Pappas is probably no worse than the other candidates in tooting his own horn. Ego is a necessary attribute of all successful politicians... that ego is not vile, nor is bringing those egos into view.
I think Lansing Duncan is a terrific guy, BTW. Pappas might grow into a fine supervisor too. The other 4 might also, but none of them look particularly terrific at this point in time.
Gosh, being a supervisor is mostly drudgery with intermittent excitement. I'm glad anybody except the corrupt take it on.

My family and I and our two local businesses (Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center and Platinum Performance) are VERY proud supporters of Steve Pappas. We met Steve a fellow neighbor over 6 years ago when he and many other local residents became very involved in our community. As a citizen Steve has accomplished much to help preserve the character of this county, and increase transparency in local, state and federal government. I was disappointed to read the featured letter last week as it was certainly written in an inflammatory fashion towards both Steve and my family. Contrary to that letter, Steve's record as a citizen is public record. He was actually quoted in this weeks edition of Newsweek magazine regarding the action that he and POLO members took against the federal government to oppose the removal of land from local (environmental, tax, official, zoning) control. http://www.newsweek.com/id/139090/page/2...
Last weeks letter is now the past, and it is time to move forward. Although I will dig up some of the facts that support Steve's record for those who are interested.
I encourage you to visit Steve's website www.stevepappas.org to learn why a growing percentage of 3rd district Republican, Democrat, and Independent citizens are voting for Steve on Tuesday. If you take the time to watch him in action during the candidates forum posted on his website you will see that he makes many mentions to the other citizens that he has worked with over the years.
When elected Steve will be a great addition to the county board of supervisors.
I think that it is also worthy to point out that Steve was strongly endorsed this week by the UCSB Daily Nexus http://www.dailynexus.com/article.php?a=...
and the Santa Ynez Valley Journal, which in my opinion clearly shows that he appeals to people of all political spectrums.
If you have any questions please feel free to come see me at the State Street Mile this Sunday or shoot me an email at mark@platinumperformance.com.
Thank you

Steve Pappas will surely be a great County Supervisor for the Herthel family and their business relationships.
I'm sure it will be regarded as a mere coincidence that the Herthels and associates have given $45,500 to the Pappas campaign.

What are you inferring pardallchewinggumspot? I guess if you believe in someone and have the funds to support them there is always a sinister motive. I think not. The Herthel family is one that puts their money where their mouth is, unlike folks like you that merely beat your gums.

Shosyv, I believe that the Herthels have every right to donate $45,500 to any candidate of their choice, and to support that candidate as well.
If that candidate is elected and happens to influence decisions in a manner that subsequently helps the Herthels, that would merely be a coincidence.
Lots of folks give away $45,500 as a matter of conscience. I've donated that kind of money, but, of course, I have no gums to beat. I am a piece of gum, and I'm quite familiar with being stepped on, although you might be surprised at how much money I do contribute.
That I've been out here on Pardall for 43 years and never steam cleaned says a lot about where the County spends its money.
