In the first installment of the semi-regular “Behind the Scenes a Independent.com” series — which will take readers into our newsroom to hear from the writers themselves — The Santa Barbara Independent’s news reporter Chris Meagher chats with senior editor Matt Kettmann about Meagher's story on the race for the 3rd District Supervisor’s seat in Santa Barbara County.

Among other topics in this five-minute video, Meagher chats about why he thinks this may be the most important race in county history, why money is what matters in politics, and how UCSB students may play into the outcome. So take a look, and then head to the ballot box on June 3. And watch out for more of these videos to come in the following weeks from Independent.com.

Of course, this is a great new feature to take advantage of The Internets.

Chris needs his audio boosted, or the mic needs to be closer.

For next time, a deeper analysis or discussion of what did not get into the article would be good instead of just paraphrasing what already was published. Newsweek has such a feature at their website.

Nice sofa Kettmann is sitting in. I bought it at a garage sale 4 years ago.

Thanks for the advice, Pritch.
The idea-to-taping time here was literally about two minutes (as in "dude, i got a new camera," "yo chris, wanna do an interview?," "uh, okay," "hey, are you already shooting?"). So there's plenty of room for both technical and editorial improvement. But we think it's a worthwhile one-take first effort. This video stuff is cake.

It was a test run of my Flip Video Ultra. So far, it's a pretty neat gadget! http://www.theflip.com/

Christopher:
Terrific interview! You're still as good looking as we remember you. Love, Nana & Papa
