Repeated Greka oil spills, like the one near Firestone Vineyards in early January, prompted a lengthy County Supervisors hearing on the subject this week. According to Greka, the spills are the result of sabotage rather than negligence on their part.

According to press release by a Greka Energy spokesperson, a Greka pump released two barrels of oil overnight on Saturday, March 22. The leak was discovered early this morning by a night operator at Greka’s Chamberlin tank battery located off Zaca Station Road in Los Olivos. According to Greka, the gauge had popped of off a pump, spraying the area with oil that was quickly contained. No damage was reported to the surrounding area.

Santa Barbara Fire Department and Greka cleanup crews were immediately notified, and it is estimated that the cleanup will be completed by the end of Sunday. Greka officials cite the addition of overnight personnel as the reason for the quick response and containment of the spill.
