Female rockers are largely missing, period. Especially good ones.

Remember Heart...fingernails on a blackboard. But then there's Chrissy Hynde - killer voice. Janis Joplin - life's pain personified. Bonnie Raitt - incredible slide guitar.

Question is: where are the YOUNG and capable female rockers?

For a start, I would say Adele, Grace Potter, Hayley Williams, MIA, Beyonce, Pink, Lady GaGa, Nora Jones, Miranda Lambert (and a whole slew of other hard-driving 'country' artists) represent the XXs well.

Hell, even Rolling Stone thinks Taylor Swift 'rocks.'

Let's see how many of today's performers--of either gender--can keep up with this:

None of the provided answers give the respondee a chance to comment on the real world. Talk about a push poll. Disappointed.
And y'all forgot Patti Smith- Rock Shamen.
But there's also plenty of young female artists onstage and on the air.

These defined-response polls are all biassed by the Indy's view of the world. Never yet seen a set of choices that represents more than a couple of viewpoints.

These boy bands in the Indy poll need to get some girl singers, who in turn will bring their girl friends to become groupies of the boy band members.

WIN-WIN!!

Frankly, female rockers are simply missing from the scene. Sure, there are plenty of female artists (binky alluded to Adele, Grace Potter, Hayley Williams, MIA, Beyonce, Pink, Lady GaGa, Nora Jones, Miranda Lambert), but the majority are not true "rockers". They're mostly pop.

Florence and the Machine gets pretty close, but I can't stand them. I don't believe country to be rock, and I'd rather listen to Florence than the whiny Taylor Swift (The girl needs to come out with an album titled "Maybe It's Me").

For me, nothing has yet come close to Janis Joplin, Joan Jett, The Go-Go's, The Bangles and even Hole. And frankly, I don't know how you can't love Heart. I'm looking forward to the renaissance, but it's not here yet.

A+ in Evil is a local band that rocks down the house and happens to be all female.
Only a fool judges any Art by the gender, race, ethnicity, "orientation".. ect of the creator.
