Santa Barbara High School teacher Jose Caballero stands between the campus’s greenhouse and a row of two-year-old jatropha plants. The plants that withstood last year’s frosts are the most cold-hardy and perhaps the best fit for survival. Science students may see the seeds of these plants converted to usable biodiesel.
