Michelle Dray Falvey

1962 - 2013, Santa Barbara

Our dear Michelle died suddenly September 14th after a rigorous 6 week battle with aggressive cancer. Born in Boston, Michelle came to Santa Barbara 13 years ago and worked serving the Santa Barbara community in the position of a licensed social worker for the Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and Domestic Violence Solutions and Clinical Director for Sojourn Early Childhood Mental Health and St. Vincent's Family Strengthening Program.

She leaves behind her life partner and love of her life Lori, as well as her wonderful parents Art and Betsey and her 3 brothers whom she adored – Ryan, Mark and Justin, as well as many more family and friends who deeply loved her and whose lives she touched immeasurably. We will miss her great sense of humor, her beautiful being and her brilliant mind.

We want to thank Dr. Hogan and his team as well as Dr. Taglia, Dr. Greenwald and Dr. Nguyen. To all the nurses at Cottage Hospital who took such excellent care of Michelle, we are deeply grateful.

Services are next Sunday, September 22nd at 2:30pm at Vedanta Temple.

I feel blessed to have known you if even for these few short years, Michelle. You were my mentor, my guide in "the trenches", while working side by side with us in service to neglected and abused children and their families.

You were an inspiration to so many of us, Michelle. It's difficult to fathom the impact of your life in service to others, but we recognize your spirit will carry on forever in the hearts and minds of so many.

May your family and loved ones grow through their grief over your sudden departure from this world, and thrive more joyously for having known you. May we carry on in service to others with humility and a renewed sense of purpose, in remembrance of your devoted and loving being.
