Randall Muir (Randy) Le Gassick, a Santa Barbara native, born on November 30th, 1953 died on June 16th, 2013 at the age of 59. He was a 5th generation Californian.

Randy loved music and the outdoors. As a youth he was athletic, an avid surfer and beach volleyball player. He later enjoyed hiking, fishing, and practicing TaeKwon-Do. Randy studied music from an early age, becoming an accomplished trombonist and guitarist. He performed with the popular Santa Barbara bands, Hot Ice and Raw Silk and was a member of the AFM (American Federation of Musicians) Local 308. Randy sat in on trombone with Aerto and Flora Purim, and was a member of the Marty Paich Brass Ensemble. He also played trombone on the albums “No Static at All: An Instrumental Tribute to Steely Dan” by Garden Party, and “Gregg Arrell”, by Gregg Arrell.

After graduating from Santa Barbara High School in 1971, Randy attended UCSB, where he received a B.S. degree in Economics. He became a CPA shortly after, but music was always his passion.

Randy was adventurous, independent, with a sense of humor, and a mind of his own. When he graduated from high school at age 17, he and a friend rode the rails across the United States just like his grandfather had done 50 years earlier.

In 1990 Randy married Denise Duckworth. They lived in Lompoc and later moved to northern California where Randy ran his own CPA firm, and continued to find time for music and the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife Denise Le Gassick, his parents Robert and Carol Le Gassick, his brother Steven Le Gassick , and his sister Jan Le Gassick.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
