Janice LaTuchie, born August 25, 1953, passed away peacefully at 6:15am on January 29, 2012 after fighting ovarian cancer for the past several years.

She was a native and longtime resident of Santa Barbara, having taught for the Goleta School District at Elwood Elementary School and as a bilingual teacher for both the Lompoc and Napa School districts. Janice also mentored new teachers through the BTSA Program.

During Janice’s illness she returned to her artistic roots and created paintings to share with family, friends and the community. It was through her art that she found a place of comfort and camaraderie with friends who were on a similar journey. She delighted in telling stories about how to capture the light and shading of what she painted and strived to create a snapshot of the life before her.

Janice was loved by family members and many friends who will miss her dearly. She is survived by her daughter, Xima LaTuchie, siblings Joanne LaTuchie, Norma LaTuchie, Bert LaTuchie, Joe LaTuchie and father, Alan LaTuchie.

In lieu of flowers, all donations can be sent to the Cancer Center of Santa Barbara to benefit the Wellness Program. Cards of Janice’s designs will be made available for purchase at the Cancer Center to benefit the Wellness Center.
