Monica Elisabeth Currie Porter

1964 - 2009, formerly of Santa Barbara

Monica Elisabeth Currie Porter, 44, of Broadalbin, NY, formerly of Santa Barbara, Calif., passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009, at Albany Medical Center Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Monica was born in Inglewood, Calif. June 19,1964, and lived for most of her life in Santa Barbara, California before relocating to Broadalbin, NY. Monica worked as a travel agent for over twenty years. She enjoyed camping, gardening, cooking and most of all being with friends. Monica is the devoted daughter of Sylvia Pia Currie Mehrten and her husband, John Mehrten of Goleta, Calif., and of the late Richard K. Currie Sr. She is the beloved sister of Christina L. Currie of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Richard K. Currie Jr. and his wife Adriane of Camarillo, Calif. Monica is the loving companion of Craig Albright of Broadalbin, NY. Monica is granddaughter to Sonja Pettersson of Rimbo, Sweden, also granddaughter to Virginia Currie of Sun City, CA. She is the niece of Linda and John Evans of Mayfield, NY, and cousin of Amy and Gavin. She is also niece to John & Jan Cleghorn of Corona, CA & Jim Cleghorn of Laguna Niguel, CA, cousin to David, Nancy & Caren Cleghorn. She is stepsister of Leslie A. Havens of Gloversville, NY. Also surviving is her cherished niece and nephew, Richard K. Currie III and Emily D. Currie.

Monica will also of course be remembered by her many, many friends.

The family would like to express our sincere thanks and praise to the Doctors, Nurses & Medical staff at the Albany Medical Center Hospital. They not only provided Monica with outstanding care, they also made themselves available to the family at all hours of the day and night. A special Thanks to Dr Rushton Jones for his honesty and for his heartfelt sympathy.

Funeral services will be private at the request of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be appreciated to the American Lung Association, 155 Washington Ave., Suite 210, Albany, NY 12210 or to the charity of one's choice, in memory of Monica Elisabeth Currie Porter.

There will be a memorial service at Harry's Plaza Cafe in Santa Barbara, CA on Saturday June 27th, at 2:30pm. All who would like to join the family in remembering our beautiful Monica are welcome.
