Lora Elizabeth Margolis
June 16th, 1947- May 20th, 2008

On May 20th Santa Barbara lost a truly special and beautiful lady, Lora Elizabeth Margolis, who passed away unexpectedly. Lora was born on June 16th, 1947 in San Francisco, California to Lyle and Edna Tatman. Lora attended the California School of Arts and Crafts in 1968. She was an accomplished painter throughout her life and received distinctive honors at many competitions. Lora later pursued a career in cosmetology and worked with Vidal Sassoon in Los Angeles. In 1980, she moved to Santa Barbara and worked at Crimper’s Hair Salon until 2007. She also spent years studying dance here in Santa Barbara and gave many recitals. Lora was a valued choir member at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church where she sang at mass on weekends. Her most recent joy was singing the Faure requiem with her beloved choir members. Lora was a ray of sunshine for her many friends and clients. She greeted everyone with a smile and a hug, she was a true friend to all who knew her.

Not only has Lora left countless friends behind but also her fiance, Roy Barncastle, her cousin, Mathew Edwards and her cherished cats; Blossom and Jazzman. The void in our hearts will be impossible to fill but we know she is at peace and take comfort in that knowledge.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31st at 10am at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on East Valley Road in Montecito. Her beloved friend Jane Maurer and the choir will sing for her Mass of Resurrection. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to The Christopher Reeve Foundation. Arrangements by McDermott-Crockett.
