The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department is continuing its campaign to increase enrollment in affordable health insurance for the uninsured. As of March 4th, the department assisted more than 4,000 people and successfully enrolled over 2,400 into Medi-Cal or Covered California health care coverage. This is an increase of more than 40% from January 24th, 2014.

With less than one month to the end of open enrollment on March 31, the Public Health Department is expanding on this momentum through its county-wide outreach campaign. A targeted on-the-ground strategy is under way to create face-to-face opportunities for enrollment.

“We want to make it as easy as possible for people to enroll in Covered California during the Open Enrollment period. We will continue to have enrollment opportunities for English and Spanish speaking residents at our Health Care Centers as well as enrollment forums at local libraries in Santa Barbara,” said Public Health Director, Takashi Wada, MD. “We believe that our outreach and enrollment strategies will encourage those who have yet to enroll into this important program.”

The Public Health Department has made it easy to apply. Simply schedule an appointment and bring essential documentation related to your residency and income. Individuals do not have to be a Public Health patient and all assistance is provided free of charge. To learn more, residents are encouraged to contact the local Health Care Center:
