The Quasars to Sea Stars Teen Program at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History is proud to announce the 2nd annual Free Teen Friday on March 14 from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at the Museum. This event will encompass a fun fusion of cool critters and weird science…and admission is completely free for teens and their families.

Teens will experience behind-the-scenes tours of some of the Museum’s oldest and most extensive scientific collections, explore the Space Lab and Planetarium, and engage in live action science experiments. Food and beverages will also be available, and fun prizes will be raffled off.

In addition to the activities, teens can learn about community service opportunities at the Museum and the Sea Center, as well as about careers in science and the growing job market in the STEM field.

Quasars to Sea Stars is a science work-study program where high school students work closely with educators and scientists to learn about the natural world, including entomology, zoology, astronomy, marine biology, and anthropology. Students also learn important life skills such as preparing for college, public speaking, and leadership.

Quasars to Sea Stars is a four year commitment, and during this time period teens will acquire hundreds of community service hours, fulfilling their high school requirement within their first summer in the program.

“I’ve been able to experience things a lot of my friends probably never will, and I’ve had a lot of fun doing it,” said Tiana Gong, Junior Quasar. “As a Quasar, I’ve learned so much about how science literally surrounds us in our everyday lives, and it’s truly an amazing concept to wrap your mind around.”
