I am a child of the ’60s, a decade during which students changed the political face of the nation. I think that with 235,000 students in the UC system, hundreds of thousands more in the State University system, and millions more in the nation’s colleges and universities, a concerted and coordinated effort utilizing social media and the interscholastic connections that exist could change the gun culture in this country. Now, when all is fresh again, is the time to act. This is especially true with the elections coming up and because schools will all be out soon.

The power of the masses of students can force Congress to change. The youth can put and end to the influence of the NRA who by economic clout keeps weapons with high capacity magazines on the streets, allows access to guns for people who should not have them, and all of the rest. Imagine guns in the hands of drunken people who may have imagined themselves as Bruce Willis types on the I.V. streets during that rampage. So many more would have been hurt or killed.

Stop it now … peacefully, legally, but dramatically and fast. Now is the time. Not One More! Use student power! It happened in the ’60s
