Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a woman Thursday for animal cruelty and burglary after she allegedly choked and then fatally stabbed her ex-boyfriend’s cat and attempted to steal paintings from his house, according to Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kelly Hoover.

Nellie Marie Palacios, a 43-year-old Santa Maria resident, told her current boyfriend that the two of them were going to her cousin’s house in Orcutt, Hoover said. Once at the location, the boyfriend stayed mostly outside, but walked in and out of the home periodically. He later told deputies he saw Palacios removing paintings from the walls and choking and stabbing a cat with a kitchen knife. The boyfriend, Hoover said, called 911 and left.

When authorities got to the house, they found Palacios in the back yard and the cat dead inside a doghouse, under which they found the knife she allegedly used, covered with blood and fur. Paintings and other household items were found in Palacios’s car. Deputies later discovered the house belonged to Palacios’s ex-boyfriend, not her cousin.

Palacios told officers that the cat attacked her and that she was defending herself. She was treated at a nearby hospital for scratches and then booked into Santa Barbara County Jail at $50,000 bail.

Good. Maybe she can hire James Segall-Gutierrez to defend that one...

Are you kidding? Cats are dangerous! Mine attacks me all the time. Her days are numbered. Seriously, from the looks of the booking photo, it appears as if meth was involved in this sad incident. This woman needs some time in rehab and she needs to get over her ex-boyfriend. My advice to the new boyfriend is to extricate himself from this relationship as gracefully as possible and find someone less intense. First it's the cat and then it's the lousy, inattentive, philandering boyfriend. Better to find a woman who is more tolerant of our foibles.

Excellent - blame the poor cat for your own inadequacies.

If someone came into my home and attacked my cat, I would be the one invoking self-defense over their body. The police call would be an after-the-fact notification.

Sure loon. The only condition is you need to to give her a big knife when you hop in with her. Hold on to your cojones.

This chick is just plain psycho. No victim here kids, just a sick, deranged, inadequate excuse of a human. Lock her up now and I guarantee when she gets out she WILL do her ill will again to somebody else. Check it out ya'll, a picture of RECIDIVISM.

Somehow I find this more upsetting and disturbing than the brother stabbing also in the news today.
