SANTA BARBARA, CA – APRIL 7, 2014

Saturday, April 12, 2014 is State Trails Day. The Parks and Recreation Department, in collaboration with Santa Barbara County Parks and Los Padres National Forest, as well as local trail organizations, are hosting a community trails work day on Cold Spring Trail in recognition of State Trails Day. Cold Spring Trail is one of the many front country trails jointly managed by the City, County and Forest Service. Maintenance of the trail system is largely the work of community volunteers.

On State Trails Day, volunteers will be guided by experienced trail leaders to cut back brush to widen the trail corridor, repair water control features to reduce erosion and repair lost sections of trail. Sign-in begins at 8 am at the Cold Spring Trailhead located on East Mountain Drive near Cold Spring Road in Montecito. After a safety talk, maintenance activities will be stationed along the trail. Lunch will be provided to all volunteers from 1 – 2 pm at Manning Park, area 9 off San Ysidro Rd and across from the YMCA. This is the perfect opportunity to meet fellow trail users and contribute to enhancing Santa Barbara’s trails. Helmets, gloves, tools and lunch are provided. Please wear close-toed shoes, long sleeve shirt, long pants and bring a water bottle, snack and sunscreen.
