The parent company of KEYT announced Monday that, pending final approval from the Federal Communications Commission, it will soon co-own Santa Maria’s CBS affiliate KCOY and purchase FOX affiliate KKFX in San Luis Obispo. News-Press & Gazette Company (which is based in St. Joseph, Missouri, and has no relation to The Santa Barbara News-Press) will also buy up KMUV and KION in Monterey.

According to a statement from News-Press & Gazette Company, current KCOY owner Cowles Media will continue to take care of management and programming duties while News-Press will provide news, back office, engineering, and sales support services. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2013. News-Press and Cowles Media representatives were not immediately available for comment.

The announcement comes around a year after the News-Press & Gazette Company bought KEYT from Smith Media for a reported $14.25 million. Since then, KEYT has added high-definition broadcasts, hired a number of new reporters, upgraded equipment, and launched a new website. During the transition, Mark Danielson took over the general manager position. News-Press & Gazette Company owns or co-owns 23 television stations and 4 radio stations throughout the country.

Oh my gosh, this is such great news!

I'm so glad that the editorial content of all three major local tv news stations will be controlled by a single entity!

This means that alternative online news media will be on an even faster track to take over mainstream establishment media as mainstream media completely discredits itself and implodes.

Cool, one source for crappy news for the entire Central Coast.

Any consolidation of news outlets is bad. It means the same news and less news. KZSB & the NP is bad enough. What about yesterday where the NP had a re-union of a wine cave staff as front page? Oh my. There's not a food buff good time Charlie as co-publisher over there, is there?

I heard both anchors on the 6 a.m. KCOY news on Tuesday say "nucular".

Fabulous!

One artery hemorrhaging out biased faux-news from the north to the south Counties...whoo-hoo! And all the strings are being pulled by Queen Wendy and her #1; King Arthur Von Wendyburger!

KEYT is a nightmare and has been since the takeover; by the time I left, I'd stopped watching it entirely.

Gosh I wish I still lived there; NOT!

Seriously....is ANYONE alarmed by any of this?
