Bissell Chiropractic Sports Medicine, a leading sports medicine practice in Montecito, announced the introduction of Acoustic Compression Therapy, also known as Shockwave Therapy, delivered by the PiezoWave2 and its focused energy system for the effective, nonsurgical treatment of chronic and acute musculoskeletal pain. They have had a high success rate using it to treat plantar fasciitis and foot pain as well as elbow tendinitis (golfer’s/tennis elbow).

The PiezoWave2 is manufactured in Germany to deliver precise healing energy that utilizes acoustic waves and compression to mechanically trigger naturally occurring cellular biochemical events. The results of these events lead to increased circulation and pain relief – both key components in the healing process. Studies show that 78% of patients have the same capacity for athletic endeavors one year after receiving the treatment as they had prior to the onset of the illness. “My foot pain was 90% better after only five sessions and now I’m back to hiking as usual,” said Mark Bacon of Montecito.

“It is felt that shockwaves cause micro-trauma to the diseased tendon tissue. This allows the body to send healing cells and increase blood flow to the injured site,” said Charles Bissell, Doctor of Chiropractic & owner of Bissell Chiropractic Sports Medicine. Until recently, people had to go to surgery centers and have Shockwave Therapy under anesthesia. What’s exciting is that it is now available as an in-office procedure, reducing the hassle and expense of the therapy. The only difference is that instead of one or two treatments at a surgery center, it can take up to seven sessions for lasting results.

Bissell Chiropractic Sports Medicine is now accepting appointments for Shockwave treatments.
