LEAPS AND BOUNDS: State Street Ballet presents Dream On By in April.

It’s been four years since Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s last Santa Barbara stop-through. In that time, America’s most celebrated dance company has ushered in a new artistic director (Robert Battle) and a bold new repertoire, which will be on display when the group takes the stage at the Arlington Theatre this April. For the first half of their Santa Barbara performance, the 32 Ailey dancers will take on one of Battle’s recently choreographed offerings. The second half of the program finds the company revisiting Revelations, a seminal piece that the group first performed in 1960. Never mind the fact that the troupe sold out the more-than-2,000-seat Arlington in 2009, or that the New York Times called them the most popular modern dance company on the planet; it’s must-see — for dance aficionados and casual spectators alike. Saturday, April 13, 8 p.m.; Sunday, April 14, 2 p.m. Call (805) 893-3535 or visit artsandlectures.sa.ucsb.edu.
