About 20 Santa Barbara city firefighters were called out to a fire at 1114 East De la Guerra Street early Friday morning.
The fire, reported at 1:18 a.m., started in an unpermitted, wood-framed storage structure behind a East De la Guerra Street residence. The storage building was completely destroyed, and a hedge near it caught fire and caused smoke damage, minor exterior damage, and broke the windows of the building behind the property on the 700 block of North Voluntario Street.
According to Captain Gary Pitney, the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but there does not seem to be any indication of criminal activity. The blaze was quickly contained, and the main house on the property did not sustain any damage.

This is exactly why it's good to pull a permit. They're not that expensive when you look as the end result of doing the job incorrectly from the get-go.
