Remember the days when a cardboard box could be something more with just a little imagination? Re-spark that childhood creativity while competing for glory and prizes in the Kardboard Kayak Races. The S.B. Maritime Museum, in conjunction with Semana Nautica, is hosting a multi-heat, all-skill-levels-welcome homemade kayak race from beach to buoy and back. Teams of up to four will be given two pieces of cardboard, a roll of tape, a marker, a utility knife, a yardstick, and one hour to MacGyver a functioning watercraft. Once completed, teams will compete in either the Family Fun or the Paddling Pros heat to put the makeshift mariners to the test. Saturday, July 13, noon-3 p.m., West Beach. To register (for $25-$30), call 962-8404 x115 or visit sbmm.org.
