Much like life before the Internet or being able to ride a bike, most of us probably cannot remember not knowing how to swim. This isn’t the case for Win, the lonely California pastry chef at the heart Women Float, the debut novella by Carpinteria-native Maureen (aka Mo) Foley. On her 29th birthday, Win decides to face her fears and take the plunge — in more ways than one; she not only takes swimming lessons but also wades through love, friendship, and family issues, including being abandoned by her mother 20 years before. A launch party and reading to celebrate Foley’s fiction debut takes place Friday, June 7, 6-8 p.m. at the Curious Cup bookstore, 929 Linden Avenue in Carpinteria. For more information, call the Curious Cup at (805) 220-6608 or visit curiouscup.com or maureenfoley.com/women-float.html.
