TEXT-HEAVY: Amos Lee's "I''m On My Way" is one of 30 prints currently on display at Sullivan Goss.

This Thursday, August 1, Sullivan Goss — An American Gallery (7 E. Anapamu St.) hosts exhibiting artist Amos Kennedy in a reception and talk from 5-8 p.m. Kennedy’s handmade letterpress prints, prepared in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech and the bombing of the 16th St. Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, focus on the ongoing civil rights struggle in America. Works on display include handheld fans emblazoned with the names of the victims of the civil rights movement from 1934 through 1968, and lyrics from slave spirituals printed on state maps. The collection, titled Put the Message in the Hands of the People and Move On, is Kennedy’s first solo exhibition. It will be on display through Sunday, September 29.
