Chef Welch has specifically invited the members of Sansum Diabetes’ Latino outreach and education community and their families to his upcoming “pop-up” dinner on Sunday February 3rd, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. The prix-fixe menu will feature diabetes-friendly foods made with fresh, organic ingredients. Chef Welsh launched a pop-up restaurant located at 705 Anacapa Street in Santa Barbara (the home of Pacific Crepes) in 2012.

According to Mary Conneely, a bilingual diabetes educator at the Institute, “This special dinner is designed to bring people together to illustrate new, exciting dishes that are delicious and take into consideration the nutritional requirements of those who must reduce their carbohydrate intake. It demonstrates that the whole family can enjoy healthy, nutritious food prepared in easy, creative ways. Our aim is that our patients will integrate the ideas they learn from this activity into their own meal planning at home as part of a program to control their diabetes and prevent it in the next generation.”

Interim Administrator Alison Okada Wollitzer, Ph.D., adds, “We are so grateful to Chef Welch for all he does for Sansum Diabetes Research Institute and our constituents. Chef Welch volunteers his time and talents twice a month to conduct cooking demonstrations, one in English and the other in Spanish, in our teaching kitchen. His demonstrations are always very popular, and now he is opening up his pop-up restaurant calendar to our Latino clients at an affordable price. Harold is a true asset to our community.”
