John Jackson & Jamie Sterling to Join 500 Social Students at Red Bull Switchboard
The Ultimate Action Sports Dream Day of Surf in the Morning and Snow in the Afternoon
On Saturday, March 16, students from San Diego, Orange County and Los Angeles, along with professional snowboarder John Jackson and professional surfer Jamie Sterling, will begin the day surfing at Huntington Beach and La Jolla Shores, then take the two hour journey up to Bear Mountain for an afternoon on the slopes.
WHO: 500 students from over 25 Southern California colleges and universities will be joined by John Jackson and Jamie Sterling.
John Jackson grew up in Crowley Lake, CA just in the shadows of Mammoth Mountain, where he was able to make the Sierras his playground. Jackson started is snowboarding career in the park and pipe competition circuit, but as he grew older his passion for the backcountry took over. In 2008, Jackson starred in Brain Farm’s film That’s It, That’s All and Forum’s Forum or Against ‘Em. In 2009 he starred in Forum’s film, Forever where his death-defying tricks led him to pick up “Men’s Rider of the Year” and “Video Part of the Year” awards from both Snowboarder Magazine and TransWorld Snowboarding. More recently, Jackson played a major role alongside Travis Rice in The Art of Flight and The Art of Flight 3D, and as star of Brothers on The Run a 16-episode web series following his adventures alongside his pro snowboarder brother Eric Jackson.
Jamie Sterling hails from Oahu’s North Shore where he honed his skills in all conditions to become a rare breed of surfer who can dominate the contest circuit just as easily as he drops into 60-foot faces. Sterling proved to be a major player in Red Bull’s Big Wave Africa event where he received an invite in 2001 at the age of 19. Sterling is also a regular at Quiksilver Big Wave Invitational in Memory of Eddie Aikau and the Maverick’s contest, where his performance catapulted him to third overall in 2008. Sterling has earned nominations for the 2008 Australian Big Wave Awards and the American Billabong XXL Awards. He is part of a committee of surfers who brainstormed the creation of the Association of Pro Tow-Surfers (APT) back in 2006, deciding on formats and locations for a full-scale big-wave surfing tour. Sterling has since won first place in the 2010 and 2011 Big Wave World Tour Championships, as well as the 2013 Nelscott Big Wave paddle.
