Police arrested Ryan Tefft, 22, after he allegedly beat up a man who broke his necklace.
According to a press release by the Santa Barbara Police Department, at 1:58 a.m. on October 20, Tefft and a friend were standing behind Santa Barbara Brewing Company getting ready to smoke marijuana when they encountered the victim urinating behind Santa Barbara Business College.
Tefft reportedly warned the victim about urinating in public, and the victim began talking to Tefft and his friend. The victim, according to police, began grabbing at Tefft’s chest and broke his silver necklace, a gift from his deceased father. Tefft then repeatedly punched and kicked the victim until he noticed a large pool of blood forming around him, police said.
The victim was transported to Cottage Hospital. Tefft was booked into County Jail on $50,000 bail.

Give the case to Sr. Deputy D.A. Waldman. She'll get this guy sent to prison for eternity, simply because it's an EASY WIN and that's what she does best. (Gawd...if this fool had knocked down a woman, he'd be even worse off in front of Dudley/Waldman.)
Not saying this nutty metal-freak isn't a creepy stupid hothead, but putting the boozed-up Twenty-Somethings away for long felony prison stretches is just economically and socially stupid.
But then...everything about SB law enforcement and her judicial system is less than brilliant.

Obviously a moment of passion crime, having some drunk individual attack you seems like self defense.

But I am sure that he didn't tell the police that he was scared for his life, instead he probably said that he did it out of anger. Once again, even if it is a matter of self defense, never, ever, speak to the police and ask to talk to a lawyer.

The fact Tefft "warned the 'victim' about urinating in public" demonstrates civility and a reasonable mindset, as well as a friendly nature.

What's wrong with this story? We never found out if they got to smoke their joint!
