Melchiori Construction Company filed for bankruptcy on 10/16, moments before a Santa Barbara judge was set to appoint a receiver at the request of Santa Barbara Bank & Trust. The bank alleges that the construction company, which has endured dozens of lawsuits over the last couple years, owes more than $6 million from a defaulted loan. The bank alleged the company was insolvent and in the process of a shutdown.

A sad story. The old man worked his butt off only to have his kid end up with zero work ethic or personal integrity and throw away the legacy while not paying the bills to every sub contractor he hired. Ugo is spinning in his grave right now...

Strange how a pseudonym can throw out all kinds of allegations about ethics and integrity.

Just for once DM investigate the facts first.
Talk to ANY trades person that worked with or for Melchiori over recent years or anyone that knew the old man. I knew him very well because of our cultural connection and shared native tongue.
Did you read the allegations in the article? Did I make them up?
Are you aware that UCSB threw them off of the job and locked them out?
Have you kept up with the lawsuits and settlements; those are not opinions.
And your opinion comes from what basis of fact or knowledge?

Very Sad. I knew Ugo and Mark when they bid against Joe Bailey and Frank Schipper for our Arlington Apartments project. Mark had just finished college and Ugo kept complaining that he went to college. But I liked Mark's spirit and Ugo's experience and Steve Pivato who is a very classy guy. Not that Frank and Joe aren't outstanding contractors, but Mark promised the sun and the moon and much more so I gave Melchiori the job. At the time, it was the largest job they had ever done (1 million), and they did a very good job and Mark kept his word on everything and Ugo and Steve were right there to take care of every detail. I was very impressed and continued to be impressed as they grew. But then the rumors started, and the complaints increased. I don't know how much Ugo dying had to do with it and I don't know if Steve is still there, but it is all very sad.

But still I find it strange that a pseudonym can throw out all kinds of allegations about ethics and integrity.

They're not allegations DM, they are facts, as a sub I know first hand. Not pretty, but I'd prefer to just leave it at that.

O.K. to be clear I was not commenting on the article but on people using pseudonyms and their allegations about ethics and integrity.
But if I were to comment on this particular case I'd suggest that maybe at least in part Melchiori Construction and subs succumbed to the Busn/Cheney conservative real estate bubble, the bust, and subsequent world wide recession.
If you check the local civil court dockets you'll see much of our celebrated business or 'business community' types involved in peer to peer litigation. Here's just on example http://www.independent.com/news/2012/...
