There are two main reasons Romney lost. First, the Republican Party has been taken over by its activist and donor base. Republicans have been exploited and lied to by a conservative entertainment complex intent on creating its own truths, and fanning ethnic panic to an out-of-date electoral map.

Secondly, Romney was probably the worst candidate for president in recent memory. Obama didn’t paint Romney a certain way, as FOX and company would have you believe, Romney did it all on his own. He ran a 1980s campaign with a 1950s social platform. Somehow thinking his shape-shifting wouldn’t be documented or his panache for truth-bending would go unnoticed is asinine. To enter a presidential primary stating to the American people what you will or won’t show us about your past finances was the worst “first impression optics” you could produce. Sorry Mitt, that’s not how job interviews work. That’s just two from a library of gaffs and miscalculations this cycle.

When the GOP goes back to its drawing board, it needs to realize it can’t just get a Latino or female senator to speak at conventions to win elections, because that will fail too, again. It’s the policy, stupid!
