The Republican mantra against raising taxes on the those earning large and very large incomes is: “We shouldn’t be raising taxes on the job creators!” I think a fair question to be put to Mr. Romney is: “How does stashing money that you earned in offshore banks help create jobs in this country?” Remember the debate is about raising income tax rates on personal income. He already pays at a lower rate than most other wealthy Americans so the issue isn’t the rate he pays but how he reinvests his wealth in the economy. We are not even sure how much of what he has stashed in offshore accounts is before or after paying income taxes. That can only be learned up by releasing his tax returns going as far back as he worked in private equity firms. I think these are the questions upon which he should really be held to account.
