The long staircase down to the sand at Mesa Lane Beach is scheduled to get a long-planned facelift next month. City Parks and Recreation announced this week that the beach access at the end of Mesa Lane will be closed starting on September 4 and will not reopen until mid November to accommodate the reconstruction process. The work, which has been in the design and approval process for the past two years, calls for the replacement the current staircase’s wood and concrete bottom-most landing with stainless steel piles and steps.

What they should have done I think is build the new staircase heading west and leave the old one up during construction so they can keep the beach access open. It's only 2 months or so (they say) but if I had an expensive 1 year lease that I just signed up for and lived in that area I'd be a little upset to lose that 2+ months of access.
