Where: 813 Anacapa Street, 805-966-9463, winecask.com.

What: The acclaimed Wine Cask Restaurant’s more casual eats.

How Much: Flatbreads $10-$18.

The Dish: One part wine bar, one part Wine Cask compound, Intermezzo is the approachable dining choice compared to its more formal restaurant. The small space is designed as a cozy quick stop for small plates, flatbreads, artisan cocktails, and local wines on tap. Dine alfresco on the Anacapa-facing portico or, as fall rolls in, enjoy the warmth of the indoor fireplace. The menu is topped with “Easy to Share” options, from truffled Parmesan French fries to rock shrimp mac & cheese with green chili. Twelve different flatbreads include Carbonara with mascarpone cream, quail eggs, and fresh herbs. Also choose from seven different Wine Cask burgers, the most popular (and splurge-worthy) of which is the open-faced Chef with a fried over-easy oozy egg.
