Goleta Water District Adopts Urban Water Management Plan
The Plan demonstrates the District’s commitment to long-range resource planning using industry best-practices, standards, and timely data.
“The updated Plan complements the extensive foundational work the District is undertaking to manag eour resources now and into the future,” said Board President Bill Rosen. “This includes the adoption of a Water Supply Management Plan and Groundwater Management, which reflect the local policy environment created through the District’s Code, the SAFE Water Supplies Ordinance, and the Wright Judgment. The Plan is a long-term general planning document and is meant to provide the public with abroad perspective, rather than an exact blueprint, of future issues of water supply and demand.
“State law requires Plan updates every five years. The District’s new Plan underwent extensive review,with data and drafts vetted through months of public committee work. Notably, past conservation success has positioned the District to attain early compliance with State laws requiring 20% per capita water conservation by the year 2020. “We have a strong tradition of conservation and working with customers to make efficient use of water resources,” remarked president Rosen. “This Plan reflects that reality and sets a course for the District to continue to be a conservation and sustainability leader.”
The District provides water to a diverse population of approximately 89,000, including agricultural,residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional customers. The District’s water system includes over 270 miles of pipelines, a water treatment plant, storage reservoirs, pumping facilities, active wells,a recycled water system, and connections with Lake Cachuma and the State Water Project.
