A 59-year-old man arrested for public drunkenness Friday died less than 12 hours later after becoming sick at the Santa Barbara County Jail, according to authorities.

Harold Lynn Salvador — a transient with no known address — was arrested without incident just before 3 p.m., Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Drew Sugars said. He was booked into the jail about a half hour later.

Salvador became ill around 1:10 a.m. the next morning and was taken via ambulance to Goleta Cottage Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 2 a.m.

Sugars said it appears the death was a result of natural causes, and no foul play or attempted suicide is suspected.
