Cancer Center of Santa Barbara Offers Free Melanoma Screenings

Have you been checked? During Melanoma Awareness Month, Cancer Center of Santa Barbara reminds us all to schedule a full-body skin exam. It is important to be aware of any unusual moles or irregular blemishes that could signify the onset of melanoma or the more common types of skin cancer, including basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma.
Melanoma is the most serious of all skin cancers, but it can be treated successfully if detected early. If you are uninsured or underinsured and have not had a skin exam in the last 12 months, you are invited to attend a free melanoma screening hosted by Cancer Center of Santa Barbara, in partnership with local dermatologists.
Dermatologists will be on hand to check for unusual moles or irregular blemishes that could signify the onset of melanoma or the more common types of skin cancer, including basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma.
High risk individuals or those without medical and dermatologic care are encouraged to attend. Individuals at a higher risk for developing melanoma are those who have fair skin and a history of excessive exposure to the sun, have many moles, and/or have a first-degree relative who has been diagnosed with melanoma.
