It’s awfully easy to give summer over to beer and gin & tonics or the like, drinks that give you much that’s both quenching and cold. But that doesn’t mean wine can’t do its usual magic, and Santa Barbara Winery is out to prove that with a demo cooking event conducted by Pascale Beale, the maven of Montecito Country Kitchen (mckcuisine.com), on Saturday, July 23, from noon-2 p.m. at the winery (202 Anacapa St., sbwinery.com).

Beale will work her way through one of the many delectable menus in her cookbook Summer—peach and heirloom tomato salad, marmalade salmon, and raspberry ginger pots de crème—and you will get to taste and figure out ways to avoid drooling in public. The event is $30 per person or $25 for wine club members, and seating is limited, so call 963-3633 or email rr@sbwinery.com.
