Veteran prosecutor Ron Zonen, according to reports, will be the lead prosecutor in the third trial against Corey Lyons, accused of shooting and killing his brother, Daniel, and his brother’s life partner, Barbara Scharton, in May 2008. Zonen, who recently announced his retirement from the District Attorney’s Office, will fill in for Gordon Auchincloss, who reportedly told the court on 7/11 the decision was made because of management responsibilities. The first two trials ended in mistrials—the first because the jury heard an improper, prejudicial statement from a witness, the second because of a hung jury. Lyons should be back in front of a jury late summer or early fall.
