What: Santa Barbara’s mobile source for the French-Vietnamese bánh mì sandwich

How Much: Chicken or beef bánh mì sandwich, $5.50

The Dish: The streets of Santa Barbara have become home to a plethora of food trucks, but O Street Truck provides the only bánh mì sandwich, whether on wheels or in brick-and-mortar establishment, not to mention a winner at The Santa Barbara Independent’s 2011 BBQ Contest. This French-Vietnamese specialty combines ingredients from both cultures — a lengthwise sliced baguette slathered with mayo, layered with zesty cilantro, cucumbers, carrots, and a spicy cha-cha sauce. Founder Liz Bradley follows a road-rules sentiment, parking and serving mostly from downtown to Isla Vista. Additional draws are the flake-crusted French pastry pizzas, as well as sides of pommes frites with sinus-cleansing wasabi-mayo sauce. O Street hits its weekly rounds routinely, while also offering affordable catering for a wide variety of events.
