When President Andreea Serban and Santa Barbara City College parted ways last month in a hard-fought severance deal, the school’s longtime executive vice president of Educational Programs, Jack Friedlander, was named the 30-day interim president of the school as the SBCC Board of Trustees figured out its next move. Late last week, the trustees officially named Friedlander the acting interim president through July of next year as they start the long process of finding Serban’s permanent replacement. To that end, according to school officials, they hope to have a field of finalists in place by early next spring. In a related move this week, the trustees tabbed the school’s dean of Educational Programs, Marilynn Spaventa, as the new vice president of education.
