Preliminary numbers from a March survey of Santa Barbara County’s homeless population show 1,023 individuals and 119 families completed the survey, which is intended to give a more complete view of the area’s homeless. Another 328 people decided not to participate in the tally, the details of which are forthcoming. Officials also indicated a jail discharge program, which helps homeless people in jail to plan for their release, has been very successful.
