TOP SPORTING EVENTS: OCTOBER 21-NOVEMBER 4

The Santa Barbara High Dons can clinch the “city championship” in football tonight (Fri., Oct. 29) when they face the Dos Pueblos Chargers at DP’s Scott O’Leary Stadium. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. The Dons have already beaten San Marcos. The Chargers, who play at San Marcos next week, not only can put itself themselves position to nab the city title, but they can stay in contention for the Channel League crown. The Chargers are 1-0 in the league and 4-3 overall. Santa Barbara is 1-1 and 2-6.

Bishop Diego hosts Grace Brethren on Saturday night at La Playa Stadium in a showdown between Frontier League leaders.

UCSB knows what it will take to finish on top of the Big West standings in men’s soccer. The Gauchos must win Saturday night at UC Irvine. Cal Poly ended the Gauchos’ seven-match winning streak with a 2-1 overtime victory Wednesday night, dropping them to 6-2-0 in the Big West. Irvine is 6-0-1 and could clinch at least a tie for the Big West crown by beating UCSB. The champion will have home-field advantage in the conference tournament.

Westmont College is vying for a fourth seed in the Golden State Athletic Conference women’s soccer tournament, which would give it a home game in the first round. The Warrior women close out the regular season on their Montecito pitch against Vanguard at noon Saturday, followed by the men’s match at 2:30 p.m.
